One of the things that stop vegetarians from becoming vegans is the cheese. Yes, cheese has been around for a while, and a lot of dishes use it as an ingredient; nowadays it's already part of the fast food culture. How many times have you asked for a pizza without cheese? How many times have you heard:" I would go vegan, but I love cheese"?
Luckily for us there is vegan cheese, and there are a lot of varieties and brands to choose from. You can get vegan cheese as shreds, slices, blocks, ricotta, parmesan, and our favorite, vegan cream cheese. This time we are reviewing the vegan cheeses that were the easiest to find at the grocery store, and of course with flavors we believe you will enjoy.
Field Roast Vegan Chao - Creamy Original:
This vegan cheese tastes just like Swiss cheese. The flavor is mild; great for a vegan panini.
Field Roast Vegan Chao - Coconut Herb:
Very refreshing; you can taste the herbs, but surprisingly, the coconut flavor is not strong at all. Perfect for a cold sandwich (avocado, tomatoes and vegan cheese), for a light snack.
Field Roast Vegan Chao - Tomato Cayenne:
The heat of the cayenne pepper shines through, but you can still enjoy the flavor of the tomato. Use this in a vegan burger; you will thanks us later.
This creamy, smoky vegan cheese seems more like a veggie pudding than vegan cheese. The package said this was great with pasta, so we made a fantastic vegan Alfredo sauce with it.
This vegan cheese is thicker than a cream cheese, but it still comes in a tub. The flavors are tangy and salty; it is seasoned with black lava salt for an extra layer of texture. Goes well with crackers.
This vegan cheese tastes just like feta cheese. Strong, with a lot of punch. We enjoyed it a lot in our veggie pizza. You need to try it out, trust us.
Super smooth and creamy vegan cheese spread. It has a subtle almond taste, but it is a great substitute for any recipe that calls for cream cheese.
Just as creamy and decadent as the plain vegan cream cheese, but this time you can enjoy the flavor of the chives, which are not overpowering at all but perfectly balanced. Ideal with a bagel or canapés. Get it next time you go the grocery store; it is delicious!
We only covered some of the options available today, but we are thankful than more brands are appearing in the market with more vegan cheeses for us. Also, if cooking is your thing, there are tons of vegan cheese recipes out there.
